Abstract
Three-quarter length portrait of Andrew Jackson (1767 - 1845) seated and in civilian clothing, his arms resting on the arms of a velvet-backed chair. Drapery forms a backdrop at his right, a classical column at his left refers to his Nashville home, the Hermitage, or to his service in the White House. A document on the table beside Jackson is dated January 8, 1840. Amans painted this portrait when Jackson returned to New Orleans to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans.

The Louisiana Digital Library (LDL) is the front door to Louisiana's digital cultural heritage. Members include public libraries, academic libraries, museums, and archives from arcross the state.

Currently, there are 25 participating institutions in the LDL. Each institution contributes the digital items and the descriptive text for their collections.
