Abstract
"Written for the benefit of the Orphans' Asylum." Prose work describing an incident involving the Confederate women of New Orleans and their Union occupiers, known also as the "Battle of the Handkerchiefs." In February of 1863, General Nathaniel Banks ordered that the Confederate prisoners of war would be shipped out of Louisiana. Hundreds of citizens, predominantly women, gathered on the New Orleans levee to wave good-bye to the soldiers and to demonstrate their loyalty and support to them. The Union soldiers ordered the crowd to disperse, and when they refused, ultimately charged the citizens using horses and artillery. The conflict shocked and outraged the people of New Orleans, and increased their hostility towards General Banks. "Battle of the Fair" is a literary depiction of the event and celebrates the women's resistance against the Union soldiers' commands, and their determination to demonstrate their Confederate patriotism.

Abstract
Song lyrics which narrate the event which interrupted St. Paul Church's Sunday services of Oct. 12, 1862. Major George Strong attended the service and announced mid-way that the minister had defied General Benjamin Butler's order that prayers should be offered for the health of President Lincoln. Strong ordered the service to end and the congregation to disperse. The verses describe the response of the pastor, Reverend Goodrich, as well as the actions and protests of the women present in the church on that day.

Abstract
Heads of mother and male child are turned three quarter to the right of the picture plane. The woman has an elongated face with narrow slit-like eyes and a short, frizzy 1954 hairdo. She wears a large earring in a pagoda-like shape in the ear that is exposed to view. She also has a high, 1950's type of neckcloth with a poof on the front. The girl has an elongated face similar to her mother's. He also possesses the same upturned nose, pursed lips, and slit-like eyes.
