Abstract
Letters written by Andrew Durnford, a free person of color, to John McDonogh largely regarding the status of the former's crops. The letters concern shipments of McDonogh's share of sugar as well as the status of Durnford's trade in molasses, corn, and flour. Other topics include Durnford's reliance on credit to make purchases, the high cost of acquiring new enslaved persons, and his difficulties arranging passage on the ship Harriet, which would not admit blacks on board. Some documents are in French.

Abstract
Text, January 18, 1856. Article entitled:Valuable Sugar Plantation and Hands for Sale. "We are requested to call particular attention to the sale, by N. Vignie, auctioneer, which will take place today, at 12 o’clock, at the rotunda of the St. Louis Hotel, of a large and valuable plantation, situated at Terre-aux-Boeufs, in the parish of St. Bernard, a few miles below the city. This plantation consists of several hundred acres of cultivated ground. It belonged formerly to the late Jacques Toutant, and yielded very fine crops of sugar. Upon it are likewise immense forests, the wood of which is becoming more scare and valuable every day. Together with the plantation will be sold 49 field hands, accustomed to labor, a large stock of cattle, mules, horses, steam engine, saw mills and etc. A first-rate opportunity is here presented for the investment of capital in the sugar culture. For further particulars we refer to the advertisement in our columns."

Abstract
Letters written by Andrew Durnford to John McDonogh, chronicling the daily operations of the St. Rosalie sugar plantation. Their correspondence predominantly concerns the status of a sugarcane crop that Durnford cultivated and supervised for McDonogh; their crop-sharing arrangements are also discussed. In three letters dated 1836, Durnford describes his difficulties with an enslaved person named Jackson. One letter is written in French.

Abstract
Letters written by Andrew Durnford, a free person of color, to John McDonogh regarding the affairs of his sugar plantation. The letters concern shipments of sugar that Durnford sent to McDonogh to place in the care of a broker, the status of Durnford's crops, and McDonogh's failing health. In a letter dated 1 November 1847, Durnford informs McDonogh that his slave, Jackson, has run away. Some documents are in French.
