Abstract
Primarily notarized documents including affidavits, bonds, land sales, slave bills of sale, and promissory notes signed in 1828 by Jean Pierre Marie Dubois, notary public of Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. Affidavits record the testimonies of Marie Suzette Lecomte and her daughter, Magdelaine, in a case of assault and battery against Augustine St. Denis, a free woman of color. The affidavit and bond of Augustine St. Denis is also present. Several documents concern another case of assault and battery, that of Joseph Robles against Émile Dupard, a free man of color. A bond posted by Jean Baptiste L. Metoyer, a free man of color, ensures his appearance in court to testify as a witness in the case; his affidavit is also present. Bonds posted by Joseph Marie Robles and Émile Dupard ensure their appearance in court. Other documents include a bill of sale transferring an enslaved person from Mr. Lourpayrac to Mr. Noel Coindet, a free man of color, and a land sale conveying property on the left bank of the Brulee River to Pierre Metoyer, fils. The bulk of the documents are in French.

Abstract
Primarily notarized documents including land sales, slave bills of sale, bills of sale, successions, estate inventories, and court records signed in 1827 by Jean Pierre Marie Dubois, notary public of Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. At least three documents concern the Metoyers, a family of free people of color who founded the Cane River community. A mortgage is granted by Joseph Forest to Augustin Metoyer for the purchase of land along the Red River. A land sale conveys the property of Placide Bossier to Louis Metoyer. Also, a land sale transfers a lot belonging to Ambroise Lecomte to Marie Françoise [Rachal?]. All but one subpoena in French.
