Horsemen in rural communities gallop through the countryside collecting "gifts" for the huge black pots of savory gumbo which are cooked up and served to everyone. As the riders come to a house on their "run," the Capitaine goes ahead to ask permission of the occupants to approach. Once having agreed to receive the gay marauders, the host is obliged to contribute a "gift." This gift is usually a big fat hen or rooster, and the pranksters must mobilize forces and capture the prize before they can properly claim it."
