Newspaper photograph of men paving the street. Caption: Pictured above at the corner of Louisiana Avenue and Sixth Street are prominent Lake Charles officials who on Monday morning spread the first concrete for a street to be poured in the city since 1930. Reading from left to right in the foreground, those pictured are: Clay Jackson, district WPA director; J.E. Johnson, city street commissioner; C.C. Collet, parish agricultural agent; Mayor J.H. Handley; R.F. Cisco, manager of the Association of Commerce. This work started a $70,000 paving project to be completed in the city with the aid of the WPA."
