Abstract
The ledger of William T. Johnson, a free man of color, contains record of Johnson's business and household expenses and also documents transactions for services rendered in his barbering and bathhouse businesses between 1835 and 1839. The ledger documents William Johnson's expenses during the early years of his marriage to Ann Battles.

The book is mostly arranged by the name of business associate, though it is sometimes arranged by date. The ledger also contains some receipts, calculations, and sketches.

Abstract
The ledger contains record of goods paid for and delivered from business associates between 1808 and December of 1811. The rear portion of the book contains lists of names of individuals, which are organized by date from August to September 1840. The ledger primarily documents purchases of food goods and dry goods. The book was probably created in Natchez, Mississippi, but the creator of the book is unknown.

Abstract
The ledger contains records of merchandise, cash, bills payable, bills receivable, expenses, and individual accounts for an unknown business in Natchez, Mississippi from January 1837 to April 1839. The first unnumbered page of the book, signed by S. L. Goddard and Thomas Besson[?], contains a note, dated April 10, 1839, assigning use of the book to C. Cason[?].

The original pagination of the book has been retained, though some pages appear to be missing from the ledger.

The entries typically provide the name of the business associate, purpose of the transaction, and the amount paid. The book is divided into sections labeled with the letters of the alphabet, but transactions are recorded consecutively. The book also includes a record of transactions with various members of the Metoyer and Dupré families, who were descendents of free people of color in the Cane River colony of Natchitoches Parish, La.

Abstract
The Johnson family ledger contains record of expenses for purchases of fabric, shoes, and clothing for the Johnson family children dating from March 1852 to August 1859. The book was probably kept by Ann Battles Johnson, a free woman of color and the wife of William T. Johnson, a free man of color. The ledger was created shortly after her husband's murder in 1851, when she had assumed the responsibility of managing the family household and businesses.

The back of the ledger contains some day book entries discussing the children's schooling and music lessons. The binding of the book includes some doodles and the signatures of Richard Johnson and Anna Johnson, the children of Ann Battles and William T. Johnson.

Abstract
The notebook of Katharine Johnson contains brief and sporadic record of classes she instructed; money spent on medicine, feed, and cotton; and day book entries for management of the family plantation. The volume contains entries dating from January 1872 to July 1876, and the book itself is a published diary entitled Excelsior Diary for 1872, with blank spaces for each day's entry and a calendar for the year 1872. The book contains numerous blank pages, and some pages are missing.

The diary of William T. Johnson, a free man of color, records his daily activities for the years 1844-1845. The entries discuss the weather in Natchez, Mississippi, news of enslaved persons and runaways, Johnson's business activities, and news in the Natchez community. Other topics include regional and national news, elections, hunting, illnesses, and music.

Multiple entries discuss news of and Johnson's reactions to the 1844 United States presidential election between James K. Polk and Henry Clay, during which the issue of slavery was an issue of intense debate.

An entry from Thursday, September 19, 1844 discusses yellow fever and the health of the Natchez and Woodville, Mississippi communities. On Wednesday, December 11, 1844, Johnson writes about the purchase of a piano at auction for $62.00.

Johnson's business and social activities with Colonel A. L. Bingaman are also recorded in the volume.

The last pages of the diary were used as a cashbook, with page 112 being a scan of a loose cashbook entry. Page 113 shows a loose receipt for goods bought at auction.

The diary of William T. Johnson, a free man of color, records his daily activities for the years 1848-1850. The entries primarily discuss Johnson's business activities, family life, and news in the Natchez, Mississippi community. Many of the entries include cash book entries of Johnson's daily transactions. Other topics include enslaved persons and runaways in Natchez, regional and national news, horse racing, hunting, and a cholera outbreak in February of 1850.

Many of the entries detail Johnson's land dispute with Baylor Winn, a free man of color who was Johnson's neighbor and the man he accused of shooting him in 1851. These entries include a November 22, 1849 entry in which Johnson describes Winn as cutting down timber ""...perfectly regardless of lines"" and a Wednesday, January 23, 1850 entry in which Winn put a stop to the land survey William Johnson was conducting.

Johnson often describes his business and social activities with other free people of color, including members of the Hoggatt, McCary, and Miller families.

Johnson's business and social activities with the local politician, orator, and slaveholder, Colonel A. L. Bingaman, are also discussed in the diary.

Entries of significance include a Monday, November 19, 1849 entry describing the explosion aboard the Steamboat Louisiana, and a Saturday, March 4, 1850 entry that describes the sale of a free woman of color and her three children, whom were formally freed by Mr. Reed.

Abstract
The daybook of William T. Johnson, a free man of color, contains a record of his daily personal and business expenses in Natchez, Mississippi between May 1830 and June 1842. The book chiefly contains records of money spent on food, clothing, musical supplies, household supplies, marketing, and supplies for William Johnson's barbershop. The first entry of the daybook (page 10) includes a record, dated October 12, 1830, of William Johnson's payment to James Miller for an unexpired lease of his shop and the adjoining buildings for $240.00. The first nine pages of the daybook are blank, and several blank pages can be found in the main portion of the book.

Other topics include Johnson's purchases at auction, illnesses, parenting, regional and national news, elections, hunting, and land purchases.

Many of the entries detail Johnson's business and social activities with members of the Winn, McCary, and Miller families, who were families of free people of color. Later entries for November and December of 1846 detail Johnson's deed of conveyance with Mr. William Moseby.

The beginning of the book contains cashbook entries for 1843; the back of the book contains cashbook entries for the year 1846. These cashbook entries record purchases made for the Johnson family and money William Johnson received for barbering services rendered.

Abstract
The first volume of Anonymous Daybooks contains the accounts of a free man of color, Oscar Dubreuil, for purchases made at a general merchandise store in Isle Brevelle, Natchitoches Parish, La. (possibly Dupré, Metoyer & Company) for the years 1856 and 1857. Included are Dubreil’s accounts with free families of color, including the Balthazars, Monettes, Metoyers, Melancons, Meullions, LeCourts, and Badins/Badons. Loose items in the book include a 1931 letter from Emma Dupré to her brother, Wilson Dupré, an advertisement for Kentucky Colonel Plug Cut Tobacco, and fragments of accounts. In French.

Abstract
The notebook of the Johnson family, free people of color, chiefly contains record of money given and received between members of the Johnson family and their business associates dating from January 1856 to August 1863. Several daybook entries are also included. Entries written in 1856 were probably created by Richard M. Johnson, William Johnson's son, whose signature is present on the first page of the notebook. Other entries were probably created by Richard's sister, Anna Johnson. The notebook includes several blank pages.
