Abstract
The undersigned according to an order issued by Sieurs de Bienville and de Salmon that each planter will furnish a black slave who is to serve when needed and in time of war, Sr. Dalcour certifies having delivered a slave by the name of Jasmin, or "Acajou", (meaning Mahogany). (See WPA abstract)

Abstract
William C. C. Claiborne served as governor of the Territory of Orleans, 1803-1812, and as governor of the state of Louisiana, 1812-1816. General order (broadside) by Governor William C. C. Claiborne for an auxiliary militia force to be continued in the service of the U.S. for six months to protect Louisiana. The orders were by his excellency, Wm. C. C. Claiborne, Governor and Commander in Chief. and A. Laneuville, col. and adjt. gen. The general order mentions drawing soldiers from each regiment of the Militia Infantry.

B&W photo, circa 1954. Two Historical Markers made in 1954 and at the Dept. of Commerce and Industry office in Baton Rouge, La., awaiting installation. Written on photo: Fort historical markers for Forts Mansura and DeRussy. The Mansura marker reads: "Battle of Mansura. Confederate forces under General Dick Taylor here formed battle line May 16, 1864, barring passage of General Banks' retreating Union Army. The Battle of Mansura ended in withdrawl of Confederates. Erected by the Louisiana Department of Commerce and Industry 1954." The Fort De Russy marker reads: "Fort De Russy. Fort De Russy, four miles North, potent Confederate stronghold defending lower Red River valley, yielded to land attack of General Smith's Union Army on March 14, 1864." Note: Fort DeRussy, Louisiana, is located on the Red River about three miles from Marksville, Louisiana in Avoyelles Parish.

Text, May 3, 1861. Article entitled: New German Company. Article describing a German military corps that would fight on the side of the Confederate United States. "The fine Turners’ company, commanded by Capt. J. Benter, will not be the only German military corps our enemies would meet in battle array, were they to invade the parish. The Germans of the Third District have organized a company for home protection, under the title of the Blucher Guards. The following officers were elected at a meeting held at the Academy of Messsrs. J.V.J. Uber on Love Street. Capt. J.F. Tobelman; First Lieutenant, H. Happe, Second Lieutenant, G. Gossen; Orderly Sergeant, John Weber; Second Sergeant, J. Lay; Third Sergeant, L. Haufman; First Corporal, L. Hilmer; Second Corporal, H.L. Gurges; Third Corporal, Jacob Miller; Treasurer, P. Flagworth; Ensign, Dr. J.E. Hylemit. Most of those officers have all served in the regular armies of Germany."

Text, August 29, 1863. Col. N.A.M. Dudley. Announcement of the appointment of Colonel N.A.M. Dudley to the position of Inspector General of Louisiana. Dudley was present at the battle of Baton Rouge in 1862 and served as a commander of a brigade in General Augur's division of General Banks's army during the seige of Port Hudson. Published in the Tri-Weekly Gazette & Comet.

With 400 Militia held his position called in the British Official reports, "The flanking battery," and from which to employ Gen. Jackson's own words "Jackson could have been shelled out in ten minutes." Against 1600 veterans of the Peninsula under Col. Wm. Thornton H.V.M.A., until Gen. Jackson had immortally won the Battle of New Orleans. This tablet is placed here by the general society of the war of 1812 in the United States." Spanish Arsenal 1170 (site).
