B/W photo, 1930s. Construction of road near Highway Number 165 in Allen Parish, Louisiana. New farm-to-market road in Allen Parish being constructed by WPA at a cost of $13,900. WPA workmen carved the road which runs for a distance of two and a half miles eastward from highway 165, through a pine forest.

B&W photo, 1970s. Sign at Kisatchie National Forest. Written on photo: The six divisions of Kisatchie encompass nearly 600,000 acres and contain 14 recreation areas. The terrain varies from beautiful cypress swamps with hanging Spanish moss to sandstone hills covered with longleaf pine. The Kisatchie Hills area has long been a favorite area for bird watchers. About 250 species of birds are found in the Forest, including the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker and the bald eagle.
