Abstract
This is an image of both the obverse and reverse of a white metal token that was likely a souvenir to commemorate a fair held for the Deutschen Hospitals in New York (Feb, 1889). The obverse has on the base - C.L. CHAPELLE, SC. T. - above a Maltese Cross between stars. This medal has a rendering of a three-story hospital building facade, probably the German Hospital located on the Southeast corner of Fourth Avenue and Seventy-Seventh Street in New York (renamed Lenox Hill Hospital in 1918) along with the inscription: DEUTSCHEN | HOSPITALS. The reverse has the text: ZUR ERINNERUNG | a scroll | AN DIE 'FAIR' | ZUM BESTEN DES | DEUTSCHEN HOSPITALS | NEW YORK | FEB. 1889 (between fleurs-de-lis). The edges are milled and there is a hole is at the top edge. -- This piece is a token from a fundraising fair for German Hospitals, held in New York City Feb 18-27, 1889. The reverse translates into English as "In Memory of the Fair for all the best (ie. to improve) German Hospitals." The German Hospital Fair was held at the American Institute Hall to raise funds and to increase the membership of the German Hospital Association. -- See: AT THE GERMAN HOSPITAL FAIR.
