Partial caption by Maude Reid: "The Willow Drive. The beautiful willow-lined road between Lake Charles and Westlake (1940). ... The beautiful drive pictured above is no more. Fumes from the chemical plant nearby have killed the trees and today on either side of the road are to be seen only the naked stumps (1952) ... In June, 1953, the old bridge across the Calcasieu River was demolished and this road is now deserted and rapidly becoming once again part of the marsh which surrounds it."
