Abstract
Letters from Joseph Thomas to John McDonogh refer to frontier conditions along the Amite River and the bayou around Barbara, Louisiana. Thomas reports on plantation matters including sugarcane, corn, potato, and pumpkin cultivation. He also discusses the construction of roads, the illegal felling of McDonogh's timber, and his concerns that Shepherd Brown, McDonogh's partner, may attack the people of Bayou.

Abstract
Chiefly contains letters written by John McDonogh to business associates regarding the acquisition and management of property. A few documents concern the purchase, education, emancipation, and repatriation of enslaved persons to Liberia. Also present is an auction catalog describing the Louisiana land tracts that the McDonogh Estate sold to benefit education.

Abstract
Includes legal documents regarding the purchase and ownership of enslaved persons, tutorship or guardianship of the Rousseau children after their mother's death, and statements of the separate and joint assets of Jean Rousseau and Jeanne Marie Mallet, both free people of color. Also included are Jean's registration of a property purchase on Bourbon St. and a power of attorney in which he grants his wife full authority to act on his behalf during his absence.
