Abstract: Thomas Bolling Robertson was born in Prince George County, Va., graduated from William and Mary College in 1795, and practiced law in Virginia until he moved to the Territory of Orleans in 1805. In 1807, Thomas Jefferson appointed him secretary of the territory. He held several state offices, was Louisiana's first member of the House of Representatives, 1812-1818, was governor, 1820-1824, and became a United States judge for the District of Louisiana in 1824. In this letter to "Dear Sir," Robertson refers to the War of 1812, commending the recipient of his letter on Virginia's reception of the British and expressing his concerns about British and Spanish loyalists in Louisiana, as well as friction between the French and American residents and the potential harm the diverse population, "a thing of shreds and patches," poses in the war. He also mentions his standing in the recent election.

Abstract: Mandat de Payment (order to pay) $6.50 to Julie Robert, described as a free mulatto woman, for the twenty-six days that her enslaved person Blaise worked on the municipal chain gang. The Mayor of New Orleans, N. Girod, issued these pay bills or cash vouchers to authorize the City Treasurer to remunerate individuals for services rendered to the City. The mandats were printed forms with pertinent data filled in. Each was signed by the Mayor and usually by the person to whom it was issued, or a designated representative. In French.
