Abstract
Letters written by Andrew Durnford to John McDonogh, chronicling the daily operations of the St. Rosalie sugar plantation. Their correspondence predominantly concerns the status of a sugarcane crop that Durnford cultivated and supervised for McDonogh; their crop-sharing arrangements are also discussed. In three letters dated 1836, Durnford describes his difficulties with an enslaved person named Jackson. One letter is written in French.

Abstract
Chiefly notarized documents including land sales, slave bills of sale, a receipt, an inquest concerning the death of an enslaved person, and a quittance that are signed in 1834 by the Natchitoches Parish justice of the peace. Documents relating to free people of color include a lease and slave bill of sale granted by Auguste Metoyer to Louis Gaspart Derbanne and Ludger Rachal, respectively. A mortgage is also granted by Suzanne Metoyer to François Metoyer. A slave bill of sale conveys the enslaved woman of Jean Baptiste Espallierie Rachal. All but two items are in French.

Abstract
In this indenture, Greenbury Smith (described as a young man of color of about 20 years of age) contracts as an apprentice to William Mills (described as a free man of color) to learn to be a shaver and hairdresser.

Indentures in which at least one party was a free person of color were selected from among all of the indentures available. This identification was made either by the designation of an individual as a free person of color in the record or when a phenotypical description like "quadroon," "mulatto," or "Negro" was given and there was no information to indicate the person was enslaved.
