Abstract
Batchelor relates in detail the events of his march, including the incident in which Rube Smith shot himself in the leg, in a drunken brawl with Hughes. Batchelor complains of his painful and swollen knee, which prevents his riding for a long period. He mentions a speech given by Judge [John] Moore, and the hospitality shown him by A[lexander] Mouton.
