Self-examination, periodic medical tests, and early diagnosis are important in stemming the tide of mortality from breast cancer, Dr. M. L. Michel said Wednesday.
He was among speakers Wednesday at the Third Assembly on Cancer for Registered Nurses in the Louisiana State university medical school's auditorium.
The three-day meeting, sponsored by the Greater New Orleans Area Unit of the American Cancer Society, Inc., will end Thursday at 3:45 p.m.
Dr. Michel, associate professor of surgery at Tulane university medical school, said the only ''correct" cure for breast cancer is surgery.
