The third daughter of the tragedy-stricken Clebert Mendoz family was ordered to Charity hospital today as the state health department was asked to seize the roach poison wafers remaining from a batch that killed two Mendoz sons.
Mary Mendoz, 3, was being brought here this afternoon after she developed symptoms indicating she had eaten some of the wafers.
An unemployed Opelousas taxicab driver, Mendoz, was in Charity hospital today caring for Carolyn, 2, and Judy, 8. With Mendoz is his wife, Dora.
Carolyn was rushed here last night by state police, while Judy arrived last week.
Charity hospital officials said today they had requested the state health department to destroy the remaining poison wafers. The Mendoz children ate the wafers in a vacant grocery store adjacent to their home .
Dr. Martin H. Klein_ of the Charity staff said the wafers, made by a Corpus Christi firm, "have a sweet vanilla taste."
He said the symptoms do not develop until at least a week after the victim has eaten the wafers, sold in a jar to kill roaches.
