Cancer will be conquered in the next five years, believes Dr. Emile A. Bertucci, assistant medical director of the Orleans parish public schools.
Dr. Bertucci was guest speaker, in observance of Medical Education Week, at a luncheon of the Young Mens Business Club of New Orleans yesterday at the Rooseevelt hotel. ."Because of the strides being/ made in research in cancer and since we are in the era of electronics and antibiotics, I predict that within five years, cancer will be on the shelf," he said. Graduates Increase
In outlining growth of medicine in the United States, Dr. Bertucci said there are now 781 accredited medical schools in the country and 220,000 practicing physicians. Last year, 6977 doctors were graduated from the schools and by 1960, 7500 physicians are expected to be graduated yearly.
'"America," he said, "has the highest rate of physicians to people in the world with the exception of Israel."
Dr. Bertucci declared that because of America's strides in medical . research, it is the most disease-free place on the face of the earth. Orleans Big Center
In discussing New Orleans as aj medical center, Dr. Bertucci dis-j closed that the medical schools of Tulane and Louisiana State univer-sities together with Charity hospi-tal and Veterans Administration hospital make New Orleans one of the outstanding medical centers in the country.
