The Charity hospital board of administrators Wednesday reportedly received a petition from residents and interns at the institution de-nianding the resignation of a member of the hospital's administrative staff.
At the meeting's conclusion, William August Worner, board vice-president, said the board would have no public announcement to make of its decision.
The demand was reportedly the outgrowth of an incident a week ago Wednesday in which a patient accused a staff member of impropriety. He was subsequently exonerated by the district attorney's office after an investigation, but the petition was drawn because its signers were said to be incensed at the manner in which the case was handled. Board members at a special ses-ision occupying almost three hours
Wednesday went into executive session shortly after the meeting convened, barring the press.
When the meeting ended, Worner said he could reveal only that "no one has been fired, and no resignations accepted."
Asked if any resignation had
been requested, he replied "I am
unable to comment on that." Dr.
Robert Bernhard, hospital director, also declined to comment. And the hospital executive, who was under fire, also declined to comment.
