Biographical Information
Antoine Donot Meullion (also known as ""Antoine Donato"" and ""Donat,""(1801-1890) was a free man of color and propertied slaveholder of Saint Landry Parish. He was the son of Jean Baptiste Meullion (1763 or 4-1840) and Cèleste Donoto, free people of color. His wife was Elizabeth Donato (died 1850), a free woman of color. The couple had eight children: Antoine Alphonse, Anne Elizabeth, Marianne, Marie Clementine, Lucien Terance, Leocadie, Jean Baptiste, and Armand.</br></br>Antoine Alphonse Meullion (active 1849-1867) was a free man of color and property owner, married to his cousin, Marie Meuillon, a free woman of color. His parents were Antoine Donot Meullion and Elizabeth Donato.

Description
Civil War era business records of Donat Meullion and his son, Antoine Alphonse. Includes an address by New Orleans Cotton Factors (commission merchants) recommending that plantation owners retain their crops until the blockade in New Orleans is lifted; Bellocq, Noblon & Company, a broker for the Meullion family, is listed among the merchants who circulated the address. Also includes a bill of sale for Donat Meullion's food and dry-goods account with Edward Fayolle, a white merchant of Saint Landry Parish. A letter from Bellocq, Noblon & Company to Alphonse Meullion includes a merchants transcript of prices for sugar and cotton. Documents are in French except for transcript and address.
