Biographical Information
Jean Jacques Montfort (born approximately 1797) was a free man of color and resident of New Orleans. He was born in Saint-Domingue to George Montfort and Fillette Capet, a free woman of color. He married Marie Eulalie Blais in 1829.</br></br>Marie Eulalie Blais (born approximately 1805) was a free woman of color, propertied slave owner, and resident of New Orleans. She was born in Cuba to Mr. Blais and Marie Magdeleine Parnets, a free woman of color. She married Jean Jacques Montfort in 1829.

A marriage contract between Jean Jacques Montfort and Marie Eulalie Blais, both free people of color. The document includes an inventory of Marie Eulalie's dowry comprising a property on Burgundy St.; an enslaved person, aged 13 years, named Melie; monies, silver, furniture, clothing, and jewelry. In the agreement, the future wife reserves the right to retain and administer separate property. Document in French with English translation.
