Biographical Information
Charlotte (born approximately 1811) was a former enslaved person of Jefferson Parish who was emancipated in 1827.</br></br>Honoré Doussan (1784-186?) was a doctor who served in the French military between 1806 and 1820. In 1813 he was named to the Legion of Honor by the Emperor. In 1820 his request for release from active duty was permitted and he was allowed to move to New Orleans. In 1825, Doussan married Celeste Ramos. In the 1860s he was Deputy Sheriff of the Parish of Orleans. Doussan died sometime between 1866 and 1867.

A petition submitted March 15, 1827 requesting the emancipation of a slave named Charlotte, age 16. Certified April 25, 1827, the document grants her legal rights since no one opposed the petition in the required forty days. In French and English.
