Biographical Information
Charles Marioux (also known as "Pierre Charles," active 1818-1840) was a free man of color and slaveholder of New Orleans. He may have married Marie Françoise Mahon, an associate of Marie Laveau.</br></br>Augustin Macarty was a plantation owner and the mayor of New Orleans from 1815-1820. Born in New Orleans on January 10, 1774, he was the son of Augustin Guillaume de Macarty and Jeanne Chauvin, a descendant of Don Esteban Miró, the Spanish governor of Louisiana from 1785 to 1792. Augustin lived with Céleste Perrault, a free Creole woman of color. The couple had one son, Patrice (born 1799). He died in New Orleans on October 16, 1844.
