Description
The back is fully paneled maple with two panels set into three stiles and two rails. The sides are each probably doweled into the base and are paneled with a single panel and two rails mortised and tenoned into two stiles. At the top of the sides are two rails that are joined to the sides and they correspond with another rail that is on the cornice, so that one fits onto the other and they are screwed together. The cornice is barrel vaulted and has four rails and the wooden top is joined to the rails. It has applied molding. Inside of the piece there are two shelves and one drawer. The top shelf is scalloped and the second is flat. Both shelves rest on rails that are screwed into the side stiles. A drawer rests inside of its own case and the case top rests on two rails screwed into the side stiles of the case. The base of the drawer case consists of two side rails mortised and tenoned into a front and a back rail. There are two drawer guides, one on either side. There is a single strip of wood behind the drawer guides. There are two blocks, one on either side that form the exterior of the drawer case. The maple in the case is veneered over poplar. The drawer is half blind dovetailed in the front, dovetailed in the back and the base is dadoed in. The drawer has its original turned wood handle that is tacked on from the back. The door is composed of two stiles with a top and a bottom rail mortised and tenoned into them. A mirror is set into the frame and a rosewood veneered piece of wood is screwed into the back to hold the mirror in. The door turns on a dowel of the proper left side of the case. Its original lock and key are in place. The decoration on the piece consists of moldings and carvings that are tacked on. There are two turned finials on the corners of the cornice.
