Mahogany-veneered desk or writing table. Rests on four molded legs that are secured into the rail and corner block. The side rails go from front to back and a front base rails goes from side rail to side rail, the back rail is positioned vertically and stretches from corner block to corner block. Two drawer dividers are each nailed to a rail which stretches from front to back and likely nailed to the top as well. A front rail is set down two inches to hold a slide out writing surface with baize. There is a top to both of the drawer dividers that holds the writing surface up as well. The writing surface is composed of four rails with a central panel glue blocked into it. In the back two strips of wood are screwed to the base of the writing surface to guide it as it slides in and out. The whole piece is mahogany veneered with fruitwood veneer surrounds. There is a large central drawer with two smaller side drawers. The drawers are composed of a half blind dovetail in the front, dovetail in the back, and the base is dadoed and glue blocked in. The original locks are half mortised in. The original baize with greek key border survives.
