Description
Marble top chest and mirror with four drawers. The back has three panels and four stiles. Circular saw marks are evident. The backboard is nailed to the side rail and the sides are two rails mortised and tenoned into two stiles. Each drawer has two drawer supports with a glued drawer guide. The drawer blade is curved and rabbeted into the two front stiles. There are two nailed drawer stops on each blade. The top drawer is molded and appears integral to the case. The top drawer cannot be removed. The drawers are fully dovetailed in the back and half blind in the front. The baseboard is dadoed in. Each drawer has its original lock and escutcheon and original turned wood handles. There are two applied quarter round columns that form the feet and stiles. They are applied to the front of the stiles. There is an applied skirt between the feet that is glue blocked. The entire front of the piece is mahogany veneered and the sides are mahoganized wood. A board with a molded edge forms the top, while a marble top sits on top of that. The mirror has two stiles mitered into a bottom rail and there are two quarter rounds forming the top of the frame. There is a back panel that is screwed onto the rails holding the mirror in. The mirror panel is topped with a molded and carved cornice. The mirror is secured with a screw and turned finial through its rails on both sides. One plinth is on either side that holds the mirror in place. Likely doweled into marble.
