Upholstery
Fragments of ivory silk indicate that the pierced wood ornament above the piano keys was once backed with silk.
Marks/Inscription/Labels
Stenciled "Made by/ A. BABCOCK/ For/ G. D. MACKAY./ BOSTON." on the front of the piano case in a gilt neoclassical design.
Accessories/Hardware
Gilt brass drawer pulls, stamped brass borders, and cast and gilt brass ornamentation are all present.
Inlays/Veneers
The front and sides of the piano case are veneered with mahogany.
Surface Treatments
Potentially some ebonized wood if not ebony.
Condition
Overall poor condition. Significant losses to veneer and inlay. Large crack in the top.

Description
Square piano with case composed primarily of mahogany. There are six turned and reeded legs with cast and gilt brass decoration and original casters on the feet. There is one pedal. The front and sides of the case are mahogany veneer over mahogany. The piano has two small side drawers and one large central drawer, made primarily of white pine. The gilt brass drawer pulls are cast and the plate is a stamped flower. The piano case has two stamped brass borders, each with a different pattern. Above the piano keys is a pierced wood ornament which was backed with an ivory silk of which fragments remain. The proper left ornament is missing.
