Description
Marble top wash stand with drawer. Two front stiles extend from the feet to the marble top. The back is two pieces of wood that are dadoed into a thick central stile. The sides are boards of wood that rest on the bottom rails. The base is three rails that are mitered in the corners and glueblocked. Glue blocks support a board that is the bottom of the case and is set into a rabbet and the three rails. The top is a paneled board whose rails are secured to the back and rest on the top of the two front stiles. The drawer support consists of a blade that is dadoed into the two front stiles and side rails are mortised and tenoned into the blade. A back rail is secured between the two. Drawer guides are tacked into either side onto the two side rails. An interior fitting divides the cabinet roughly in half and is set in to the base and rests around the drawer blade and back rail. It is nailed with a thin piece of wood stretching from front to back. The divide has a shelf which is set into the divider and the front and rear stiles. The doors are paneled and curved and rest on their original brass hinges. A marble top and back splash rests on the case. The decoration is carved and tacked onto the exterior of the case. An applied piece of molding is on the proper right door to cover the join. The whole piece is covered in veneer. The original lock and hook survive on the doors and the original lock on the drawer. The drawer is half blind dovetailed on the front, dovetailed on the back with the baseboard dadoed in.
