Description
Mahogany veneered washstand with four turned feet integral to four corner blocks. Three rails, one on the front, two on either side, are joined to the corner blocks. A rail sits on top of the base rail on either side and is perpendicular to the base. The back rail joins the two back blocks and is glue blocked in. A drawer support is tacked onto the two base rails and two drawer guides are glued to the base and side rails on either side. There is one drawer in the base. The top of the bottom case is composed of a single piece of molded wood that is tacked onto the top of the base. The two side panels of the piece have cut half rounds on the front and sit on the side rails and support the top. The top of the piece is tacked to the side panels and have two wooden rails secured to the top that serve as drawer guides. The drawer support is nailed to the drawer guide. The front facade is two drawer surround composed of three pieces of wood each and tacked together and tacked into the side panels. The front panel is rounded and roughly joined and tacked together between the two drawer supports which is a single piece of wood which is cut out. There is an applied cockbead along the bottom edge. The top has a round cutout to support a wash basin and a back splash and side splashes are tacked onto the top. The backsplash has two stamped brass finials and is cut, as are the sides. The back of the entire piece is a single piece of veneer tacked to the back. All three drawers are half blind dovetailed on the front, fully exposed dovetailed on the back and the bottom board is dadoded and tacked onto the back rail. The entire piece is mahogany and mahogany veneer. There is an original basin cover which appears to be made of black painted sheet iron.
