Description
Mahogany sideboard with two upper gallery shelves and gothic revival-style motifs. The piece is constructed in two major sections with the base sitting on four square block feet resting on original brass casters. Two shelves are dadoed into the top, resting on the marble top, with fretted sides and paneled backs. A board that forms the base rests on these feet and a skirt rail is applied to the sides and the front. The back is two panels with divided in the center of the piece by a structural divider that is a single board and dadoed into the base and top boards. The sideboards are single panels secured to the base and top. A stile on either side of the front is glueblocked to the sides and the doors are attached on two original brass butt hinges. The gothic-style doors are paneled with a peaked motif on the front. There are two top rails that support a top board and then the marble top. They are faced with a cyma molding. The drawers appear integral to this top molding, and have fully dovetailed backs, dadoed bases, and the two side rails fit into dadoes on the front. There is a drawer divider and guide on the center. Original half mortises brass locks in drawers and on door.
