Description
Mahogany tester bed with removable headboard. The cornice, veneered in mahogany, consists of a projecting ogee molding and a plain frieze. The four posts are mahogany or veneered in mahogany. Roughly the upper half of the posts are turned with the majority being octagonally faceted with an applied half-round in the center of each facet. The bottom portion is square, and the posts at the foot of the bed have a flat applied element with blank fields and double scrolls. All posts terminate in a hemisphere with the rounded apex toward the floor. The headboard is mahogany paneled and the outer side stiles are capped with a half moon shape. There is a carved applied anthemion motif on top center of the headboard with scrolls and acanthus leaves, all sitting on a rectangular platform with some of its molding missing. The headboard has a brass hook attached to either side near the top of the stiles that hangs on a corresponding ring on the bed posts, allowing the headboard to be removed. Two other sets of rings below the uppermost set may have allowed the headboard level to be adjusted. The side rails and foot rails are made of mahogany with a pine runner attached inside to hold the bed slats. The rails slope down from the ends joining the posts and reach a plateau in the center. Each has an applied mahogany ogee molding at the bottom.
