Description
Corner cupboard with marble top and upper étagère with galleries. The upper half of the piece consists of three shelved galleries with pierced scrolling decoration, either made of rosewood or possibly ash darkened with paint or varnish, behind. The far back corner of the étagère is supported by a circular column with a lobed motif on top, somewhat similar to an upturned Spanish foot. Each shelf veneered in rosewood or may be made of solid rosewood and each has a thin applied textured molding on the outer edge. Between each shelf and between the bottom shelf and the marble top is a small turned and carved column, likely made of rosewood. Each gallery as well as the marble top is accompanied by two carved projecting stands with a petal motif around the top near the outside of the piece. The marble top is surrounded on the front by a gadrooned molding and an undecorated frieze which is part of the lower case, constructed of pine. The exterior of the case, including the curved doors, is veneered in rosewood and the edges of the case include a turned and carved half column. The doors also display applied Gothic tracery. The interior of the case is veneered in satinwood. The doors have an applied ebonized cockbead applied around the central panel.
