Description
Dressing bureau with tombstone form mirror in carved frame suspended by two scrolling, foliate arms. These insert through a bank of three small drawers, the side drawers having convex fronts. The center drawer has no pull, but does have a locking mechanism. These rise set back on a poplar board that has a slab of marble on the front, visible portion. The lower case is constructed with mahogany sides and four mahogany veneered drawer fronts. The veneer of the drawer fronts is in four pieces cut from the same portion of wood, creating a double bookmatched effect. The inner side of the drawer front is also ornamented with bookmatched figured mahogany veneer. Except for the top drawer, which was meant to look like a decorative curve, the drawers retain turned wooden knobs. The case rises on saw cut ogee bracket feet that continue into a scalloped apron around front and sides. Inner part of back feet are simple angled boards.
