Description
Three part combination armoire and dressing bureau with central mirror. The center section is topped by a large rectangular framed mirror supported by two square columns with leaf carved capitals under an empty triangular pediment. Columns and top are veneered with mahogany, likely solid mahogany capitals. The mirror rises over a marble top with two small drawers on either side. This rises over three graduated drawers with locking mechanisms, likely original. Case is constructed with pine sides and tulip poplar back. Retains original drawer stops. No dustboards. Underside of drawer blades have indecipherable inscriptions, possibly done in the workshop and cut through. Numbers written in blue on underside of marble top, possibly 141..21.. (obscured by side rail). Drawer runners screwed in from the sides. Mahogany veneered drawers have replaced pulls and evidence and possible evidence of post and bale hardware, or something with two holes. Top drawer is pine and tulip poplar as secondary. The case rises over a void that runs its width. The case is flanked on both sides by front facing armoires. Cornice has an central quarteround with corner triangles. A course of flattened ovolo molding projects from the case over an empty frieze. The paneled doors have prominent hemispherical recessed on the doors veneered in rosewood. The sides of the armoires are of single solid mahogany boards. The paneled back boards are of a red washed pine and tulip poplar, the bottom board is pine. Proper left armoire has three cast iron hooks, one broken, and a fourth modern hook. Two of the cast iron hooks are in the proper right case. In all, there is evidence of five hook positions in both armoires of an unknown vintage. Base of armoires have casters in each corner.
