Description
Ornate rococo revival style dressing table with mirror and galleries mounted on top of a marble top. The mirror frame is shaped with C- and S-scrolls and has carved floral decoration on either side of a central motif with a broken cornice, pierced foliate work, and a multi-lobed finial. The facing of the mirror frame, which includes the floral carving, is walnut applied over ash, which is grain-painted to look like rosewood. The mirror frame is mounted to flanking galleries with three graduated, shaped shelves made of rosewood supported by small, spool-turned supports with a turned finial. Between each gallery is rosewood pierced work with symmetrical designs depicting stylized flowers and leaves. There are carved, scrolling brackets made of walnut applied to the outer edge of each gallery. The shaped marble top sits above a case with one large drawer. The drawer front is shaped to match the front of the case and has applied carved decoration made of walnut applied over rosewood veneer, which is attached to a substrate that is likely ash. The carving depicts a central cartouche with cabochon surrounded by a flower and flowing C- and S-scrolls that extend to the outer edges of the drawer front. The interior of the drawer is divided into four compartments. The interior is finished and includes walnut dividers and walnut-veneered bottom, sides and back. The substrate in the drawer bottom and back is pine and the sides are walnut. The table is supported by four legs carved into connecting C-scrolls with additional floral and foliate embellishment. The legs meet in the center of the space under the table with additional projecting C-scrolls supporting a central carved basket made of acanthus leaves and lobes and a carved rose in front.
