Description
Washstand with marble top, molded with an ogee edge, and marble backsplash over a drawer and case. The exterior of the front of the stand is veneered in mahogany while the sides, made of tulip poplar, have a red wash that may have been redone. Beneath the marble top is a drawer with a mahogany-veneered, ogee-shaped front. The back of the drawer is attached to the sides with two rough dovetails on each side that may indicate that the drawer was rebuilt at some point. Beneath the drawer are two paneled doors veneered in mahogany and a brass lock on the proper left door that appears to be original. There is one shelf inside the cabinet space with a hook screwed into it that goes through an eye attached to the inside of the proper right door to help secure the doors. The door hinges seem to be replacements. The stand is supported by rear bracket-cut feet that are of a piece with the side boards. The front feet are ogee-shaped bracket feet that mimic the same shape as the bracket cut back feet.
