Description
Two door poplar tin (or pie) safe. A single poplar board forms the top, which has a finished edge. Both side stiles have a scratch beaded pattern that runs the entire height of the piece, including the legs. Screws, possibly a later addition, also follow the length of the stiles. Both side surfaces are constructed as panels with three stacked tinned sheet iron inset centers having a punched geometric design. This same configuration is carried through to the slightly shorter doors which open outward with a single lock. New screws attach what appear to be the original hinges. Two interior shelves are likely in a new configuration and rest on short stiles. The upper compartment surmounts a wide drawer that runs the width of the piece between the corner stiles. It retains two turned knobs and of nailed construction. A rounded section of wood is nailed down the center of the drawer and continues its full depth. The whole rises on slightly chamfered feet that are carved from the corner stiles and continue the decorative scratch beading.
