Description
Two door cherry tin (or pie) safe having a two board cherry top with rounded edges. The top extends slightly over the main case. The corner stiles continue the rounded profile of the top. A center stile divides the two doors that open outward on what appear to be the original hinges and fasten with locks of the same vintage. The doors are mortised and tenoned with two inset tinned iron sheets with punched design that incorporates a six-pointed star, hearts, and diamonds. Like sheets form the inset panels on both sides of the case. Inner shelves have been reconfigured and evidence of earlier orientation has been obscured by later red wash that coats most of the visible surfaces. One peg of the upper left corner of the center stile was not cut down and still juts into the compartment. The shelves and secondary wood are tulip poplar. The case rises on simplified, highly vertical ogee bracket feet in the front and triangular blocks in the rear. All outer surfaces have been treated with a later thin red wash.
