Description
Desk and bookcase in two parts, the upper with cavetto cornice over a plain case with two glazed doors. The doors are divided into small diamonds with parallel munions. Inside of the upper case are four fixed shelves. The upper bookshelf case rests within a border applied to the top board of the lower case. This lower case is designed with a projecting front drawer front that disguises a fall front writing surface and desk interior. The desk interior is visually divided into three sections. The outer two are arranged with two drawers over three arched pigeonholes. The center section has a single large drawer over an opening of the same width. All drawers are set with what appears to be the original bass pulls. The desk drawer projects over three graduated drawers that are flanked by columns with spiral reeding. The column is divided by a concave collar that divides the directionally opposing reeding. Each drawer is designed with a portion of highly figured wood veneer, likely sycamore, which is framed by sections of mahogany veneer. All pulls are replacements, although the locks look original. The case rises on four identical spiral reeded legs with ball feet. Bottom board of back has clear reciprocating saw marks.
