Description
Upholstered ottoman in the gothic style having a flared upholstered and sprung cushion, which is stuffed with horsehair, burlap and cotton. Presently upholstered with leather, possibly original. Cushion frame attached to base with four screws. Triangular corner brackets are nailed into frame. One corner block bears a faint chalk inscription, possibly beginning with "Kath". The frame rises on block feet. Each foot has a circular iron disk and modern castors. Exterior of feet was originally veneered but this is largely missing. Rails have applied walnut or mahogany C-scroll tracery design over veneered surface. Another strip of pierced tracery extends below the rails on all four sides and is presently attached with iron nails. The interior edge is reinforced with additional wood.
