Description
Portrait of Elizabeth Routh Williams (1794-1855), sister of Caroline Matilda Routh Williams. Sitter is wearing a white cap and black dress with a pointed collar against a dark background. The sitter's body faces the proper left side of the canvas and she looks out at the viewer. Her expression is stern, with intense eyes and a pursed mouth. She wears a white lace cap with long lace ties that cascade down her shoulders. The collar is secured in the center with an oval broach. The black dress crosses over in the front. Frame decorated in the rococo revival; or French style, with rocaille decoration on the four corners. Oval mount with rinceaux or floral brackets in each corner.
