Description
Oval hatbox covered in wallpaper with vines on a dark red ground. The top of the base has a red rim, and the top has been sewn to the sides of the lid. This does not appear to be part of the original construction, but a later repair when the sides of the lid gave-way. The lid is cardboard, the top of which has been covered in white paper, then a red rim has been added. The main part of the box is a yellowish cardboard, lined on the outside with wallpaper that depicts vines and berries on a dark red ground. The bottom edge of the box has been reinforced with cotton thread to secure the side of the box to the bottom. It is possible that white paper lined the interior of the box, but only fragments in patchy areas remain.
