Description
Four turned, splayed legs inserted into a solid ash seat. Two turned stretchers on either side between the front and back legs and a central turned stretcher between the two side stretchers. Thirteen turned spindles dowled into the seat. The front two spindles are more elaborately turned than the rest. A bent rail is attached along the top to each spindle. Remnants of a probable original arm rests remain. The spindles have been cut at the top of the rail and there is evidence for the top bent support. The piece was probably originally green but has subsequently been painted green again, stripped and refinished. Remnants of the later green paint remain on the base. There are scribe lines visible on some of the stretchers. The seat is molded with an incised line around the back half of the seat about an inch from the spindles.
