Description
Ornately carved sideboard in the Rococo Revival style, surmounted by two shelves. The shelves are topped by a pierced highly carved crest with fruit in the center, flanked by C-scrolls. Four arms flair out terminating in volutes that support a disk possibly to hold small ceramic items. Two shelves are supported C-scrolls near the back and in the front by ornate arms. The bottom shelf supported by heavily carved S-scrolls with grapes, pomegranates, and other foliate decoration. The back board is recessed by double thumb molding with recessed center. The top of the sideboard is covered by white marble, echoing the serpentine, bowed front of the lower case. The sideboard's edge is decorated with foliate gadrooning. The lower case consists of a frieze drawer above two drawers. The frieze drawer features exaggerated gadrooning around a central medallion containing the keyhole, flanked by acanthus leaves. The doors are bowed out to mirror the shape of the case. Both doors have applied carved bouquets of fruit, tied at the top by a bow, surrounded by a rectangular frame of rocaille decoration. The bouquet decorations are adhered to the doors with two screws on the interior of the doors. On either side, the case has two shelved areas supported by undulating rocaille brackets. The center of the apron is embellished with a foliate boss flanked by C-scrolls and S-scrolls. The feet are scrolled bracket feet decorated with a carved shell with a cluster of fruit and leaves.
