New green, white, gold wool needlepoint upholstery. Entire bottom is under new black fabric.
Marks/Inscription/Labels
"made for J. T. McMurran" written in graphite on underside of rear seat rail.
Accessories/Hardware
Wrought nails found on underside of couch.
Condition
Overall good condition. Some loss to veneer on skirt at rear. Professional conservation of feet.

Description
Grecian-style sofa with long upholstered bench, low back, and serpentine arms that roll over at either side on muscular, animal paw feet. Finished and upholstered back. Mahogany veneer across skirt on all four sides. Serpentine arms with solid, three-dimensional carving of volute with leaves. Crestrail is built of of multiple sections glued: continuous straight rail across back with additional carved elements in center above: reverse volutes with rosettes seen from sides support a small five-lobed fan or anthemion-like motif. Water leaf-like carving at either ends of crestrail. Feet carved from solid and built up in sections. Feet are oriented so that side profile faces front. Glue blocks (restored), possibly pine, at rear of feet. Professional reupholstery conceals details of construction and foundation within.
