Description
Architectonic stained oak armoire or bookcase with two glazed doors over single long, dovetailed drawer below. Case stands on simple, continuous bracket foot and is surmounted by projecting cornice wider than the base dimension. Whole of the case is executed in an Elizabethan or Tudor-inspired taste with heavily carved garlands and foliate elements adhered to the case and door fronts with glue and nails. Tripartite doors are divided by engaged, confronted Solomonic (twisted) colonettes that support a sequence of arches and arched pediment above. Below the glazing are three sections of carving in linen-fold style. Classical figures stand on plinths framing the doors. Beneath them trail garlands of fruits and flowers. Case sides divided into tripartite panels, the inset panels have grains oriented in different directions. Interior contains shelves with fronts having a single bead molding and carved, cusped treatment below.
