Upholstery
Replacement pink silk and cotton damask woven upholstery, sun-bleached and decayed on back where openings in back panel reveal construction. Spring upholstered seats with webbing (likely jute) covered by black woven cotton cloth tacked to seat frame with small upholstery tacks. Multiple campaigns of upholstery history visible in tacking patterns. Upholstery has very hard, rolled edge framing seat, and pink silk gimp edging. Animal hair and plant fiber used as stuffing in back of sofa, while plant fiber (possibly straw) used as stuffing at arms.

Original casters of iron collar and pin that is driven into base of leg with turned hardwood wheels.

Description
Serpentine, continuous-back sofa of chestnut seat and back frame with laminated, carved rosewood cresting. Left and right sides of sofa frame of five-ply laminated rosewood forms curvature of sides, tapers in width and is tenoned or doweled into seat frame (upholstery conceals joinery, except on proper right where laminated support visible). Front legs of inverted tapered trumpet form, and S-curve rear legs that end in stump feet on casters. Seat frame at sides and back tenoned or doweled into front and rear legs, no pins visible. Cresting composed center and right and left sections of various depths ranging from three to five layers of rosewood laminate (approx. 1/8" thick) which have been doweled together twice. Central motif in crest of two blossoms carved from solid rosewood attaches to crest via screws. Arms carved with greek key and incised motifs. Rosewood veneered front seat frame also decorated with incised motifs.
