Marks/Inscription/Labels
"No 4" written on interior of proper left case side, at top, in graphite. The "4" has been enhanced with black ink, possibly from a marker.
Accessories/Hardware
Circular door escutcheon of turned wood (only part remains). Brass door lock original, secured with slotted iron screws. Original door hinges of brass plates screwed into upper and lower sections of door and corresponding sections of door frame.
Inlays/Veneers
Veneered throughout. Sophisticated use of veneers on all four sides cut from single panels, then sawn through so when applied to case, graining matches above and below molding at drawer height.
Surface Treatments
Grain-painted moldings.
Condition
Overall fair condition. Concave quarter-round molding on upper section under top missing on proper right. Case bottom loose. Front of shelf badly worn. Split developed in upper part of proper right case side. Back board has pulled away from proper right rear stile. Section of veneer is missing from rear skirt. Bottom of door has a repair that has been feathered in.

Description
Cabinet consisting of one drawer width of case with storage section below enclosed by door. Interior section divided into upper and lower sections by dark-stained pine shelf resting on dark-stained rails (possibly pine). Case made of four pine stiles continuous through case. Pine sides and back have applied mahogany veneer on interior stained black below level of drawer bottom. Finished, veneered treatment of back conceals rear joinery. Top of case is pine board that floats in pine rails creating mortise and tenon joined frame secured to tops of side panels and back board with small iron nails. Pine bottom board and rails separating drawer from cabinet and bottom case rail. Apron of quarter round concave molding painted in imitation of rosewood, with tall rosewood veneered panel below. Case rests on small feet with double moldings rounded at exterior corner, likely glued to stile. Rectangular walnut door also veneered on interior with mahogany. Door hinges on proper left, swinging on pivoting hinge that only allows door to open 90 degrees. To accommodate door, rectangular notch cut out of proper left front of shelf. Thick rosewood veneers mitred and glued to door front, further decorated with applied carved C- and S-scrolls to create framing element. Door framed by applied ogee molding also painted in imitation of rosewood. Applied narrow, rounded molding applied to visually separate drawer from lower section. Quarter-round concave molding applied below top. Greyish white striated marble top with concave molded edge and rounded corners. Drawer is dovetailed box of walnut front veneered with rosewood, cedar sides, back and bottom. Bottom slid into rabbet in drawer sides, single iron nail fastens it into drawer back. Drawer slides on bottom of drawer sides. Back panel slightly lower than front and sides. Front has small quarter-round concave molding applied to match case, painted in imitation of rosewood.
