Description
Bedstead or tester bed consisting of rosewood veneered head and foot boards, as well as side rails with applied scroll and foliate ornament grained throughout to match rosewood veneer. Headboard of pine panel with grain oriented horizontally floating in mortise and tenon frame. Bed rails are wide, regularly spaced pine boards. Entire bed rests on four wheeled, iron bracket feet screwed to side rails by three large iron screws. Headboard has undulating broken arch top surmounted by urn of flowers and scrolling brackets. Bed posts with pine block core made up of four clustered colonettes veneered in rosewood surmounted by four upturned scrolls that support a lobed urn finial. Finial is attached to a turned rosewood, telescoping rod stored within the interior of the column. Half-tester has serpentine front and sides with cove-molded cornice with small beaded molding, which is grain-painted, while the tester is rosewood-veneered. Cornice surmounted by diadem-like applied scrolling foliate carving flanks a central boss. Beige fringe and alternating cream and beige gimp attaches to tester molding with upholstery tacks. Beige silk upholstery is folded and gathered at center, held in place with a fabric covered rosette with central brass ornament of sunburst overlaid by flower. Copper curtain rods are suspended from iron hooks that screw into the tester. Blue gathered fabric covers the back of the bed. A pocket at bottom contains rod to weight the curtain straight; curtain suspended from a rod above (not visible), anchored into top of tester.
