"G W & H" marked incuse in Roman caps within rectangle. See photograph for additional marks. Engraved presentation script on side of midsection to right of handle and spout: "New Orleans Plate, Eclipse Course / won December 8th 1837 by Col. A. L. Bingaman's / s. m. Angora by Leviathan dam Patty Puff, / by Pacolet 5 yrs old 107 pds Nelson beating / Mr. Kenner's Ch Monmouth, aged 100 pds / Mr. Garrison's s.g. Miner aged 100pds & / Mr. Ballets s. f. Louisa Bascombe 3 yr old 83 / Pds Run in 3 m. 51s 3m 49s". "PRESENTED TO MY / (in "Old English" type) Mother / (in script) Mrs. C. Bingaman" engraved on opposite side also in the midsection in Roman caps.
Condition
Descended in the Bingaman family of Natchez, Mississippi.

Description
Pair of pitchers or trophies. Round body in section on pedestal base. Flared shaped rim with an applied small gadrooned band. Incurvate neck, beaded band, seamed step shoulders. Seamed plain circular midsection having applied cast band of foliate scrolls and flowerheads, applied beaded band above and below, at juncture with raised lower 8-lobed curved and tapered body. Applied ovolo running border at juncture with stepped pedestal base. Applied cast foliate scroll and flower encircling the upper surface and also repeated inverted to make vertical foot. Hollow-cast c-scroll handle with thumbpiece.
